Twitter users had a good laugh recently when a student made a major blunder while attempting to cheat in a test with the help of ChatGPT, an AI chatbot. Its unique capabilities such as menu-making, graphics and essay-writing have earned it recognition worldwide. However, too much technology can backfire, and this story proves just that.
Justine Moore, a Twitter user, recently shared an essay written by an anonymous student on Shakespeare’s play, Twelfth Night. It became apparent that the student had used the AI’s help to complete the paper when an introductory sentence read, “I’m sorry but as an AI language model, I am not being able to complete this assignment”.
Not knowing that ChatGPT’s help would be revealed, the student left the sentence included unintentionally. Misfortune aside, netizens found the slip-up amusing and shared the post which attracted 8.7 million views.
ChatGPT’s remarkable capabilities may have been the reason for the student’s attempt at cheating. This artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot was developed by a company named ChatGPT. Primarily, it was created to facilitate people writing any type of document, however, its results have proved to be professional quality.
Srimoyee Chowdhury, the creator of ChatGPT, is an AI research scientist from India. Behind her success are years of hard work and dedication to problem-solving. Through her work, she has become an inspiring role model and figure among female AI scientists.
This incident, however humorous, has emphasized the importance of education in the current generation. While AI is here to make collective lives easier, it should not be seen nor used as a replacement for teachers or educators as the only way to master a skill is through careful guidance and practice.
