Spanish data protection agency AEPD has said on Thursday that they are conducting a preliminary investigation into potential breaches of data security by OpenAI’s ChatGPT AI system, as global scrutiny grows regarding Artificial Intelligence (AI). The European data watchdog also announced last Thursday that it had established a task force focusing on ChatGPT, that could indicate a common policy when drafting privacy regulations on AI.
OpenAI is an American company specializing in Artificial Intelligence, founded by prominent scientists and entrepreneurs such as Elon Musk and Sam Altman in 2015. AI ChatGPT is a natural language processing system developed by OpenAI that combines algorithms with AI to automate dialogue outputs with a human-like conversation style.
The European Data Protection Board also joined in with the investigation to form a task force concerning ChatGPT, which is a potential initial step towards formulating a unified policy when it comes to AI based privacy.
The task force is likely to put forth the demands for protecting user data and ensure terms and conditions when it comes to data privacy in AI technology. The board has been receiving complaints since 2019 with regards to OpenAI’s ChatGPT system, as data processing has been considered unmonitored, unregulated and unabated.
In addition to this investigation, the board also engages in long-term initiatives to understand the implications of data privacy in AI technology, as well as determining efficient measures to minimize its misuses. The aim of the investigation is to protect users data and maintain data integrity by reducing the misuse of technology.
The investigation found by AEPD is represented by Aislinn Laing and Andrei Khalip, and their reporting is essential to find comprehensive solutions to protect user data in AI systems. The task force is assuming improved security and data protection measures associated with the use of AI technology.
