SoftBank CEO, Masayoshi Son, revealed his extensive use of ChatGPT, the artificial intelligence-powered chatbot from Microsoft-backed startup OpenAI. In a statement to shareholders of the group’s telecoms subsidiary, Son admitted to using the chatbot almost everyday and talking frequently to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. The SoftBank boss has stepped back in recent months to focus on the planned listing of chip designer, Arm, as the technology investment conglomerate racks up heavy losses. Interest in generative AI is driving capital expenditure globally, and Mercedes-Benz announced last week that US drivers could try out ChatGPT in a test programme starting on 16 June. Compatible with 900,000 vehicles, ChatGPT is hoped to make the German car manufacturer’s system’s answers sound more natural, with drivers able to use the technology to ask for destinations or other queries, such as what to cook for dinner.
