Snowflake Introduces Manufacturing-Focused Cloud Data Platform

Date:

Snowflake, a cloud data company based in Montana, is taking its platform to the manufacturer sector. The company recently announced the launch of its Manufacturing Data Cloud, designed to centralize data across IT and OT sources, such as sensors and smart devices, and pre-built partner solutions to provide enterprises with a jumpstart in analytics and trends analysis.

This comes just a week after rival company Databricks released its own package dedicated to manufacturing, Lakehouse. However, Snowflake’s offering offers a more comprehensive platform to manage end-to-end supply chains, improve shop floor efficiency, and create better products and services for customers. This is partly because the data cloud can uniquely be used to unify IT and OT data, as well as accessing partner-built solutions, datasets for various use cases, and integration with other analytics platforms such as Fivetran and Tableau.

The Manufacturing Data Cloud is said to have seen early adoption from Honeywell, Scania, and ExxonMobil. With 50 partner solutions included, teams have access to solutions such as LTIMindtree’s shop floor visibility, EY’s spend insights, and Deloitte’s energy management. Teams have the advantage of paying only for what they use, allowing them to scale the platform according to their own needs.

Tim Long, Snowflake’s Global Head of Manufacturing, speaks of an increasing demand from the industry, with enterprises wanting to utilize data to drive more insights and better understand their digital transformation efforts. He further emphasizes Snowflake’s competetive edge in that their data cloud is uniquely able to unify IT and OT data, as opposed to Databricks’ focus on IT data only.
