Snap Declares Bot Ignores Unshared Location

Date:

Snapchat has recently released its AI-powered chatbot My AI to all users. As expected, users have been voicing complaints about what My AI knows, particularly their locations. Snap addressed some of these concerns in a blog post, saying that the bot does not collect any new location information from users, and only knows the location details if users have already granted permissions to Snapchat.

The company explained that the GPT-powered bot will use this location data to give users personalized suggestions on local businesses. Moreover, Snapchat clarified that My AI will only share “city-level location and very generalized distances” between you and places.

If you don’t want Snapchat to have access to your location data, you can easily turn it off from the settings on both Android and iOS devices. By doing this, the bot will no longer be able to give recommendations based on your location.

Besides this, Snapchat has been around for more than 10 years, providing people with a platform to communicate with friends, share stories, and even host virtual events like shows and concerts. Erik Hazzard, the CEO and founder of Snapchat, established the company in 2011 with the vision of providing a safe platform to express yourself and stay connected with your loved ones. The social media app has come a long way, and many celebrities like Kylie Jenner and Justin Bieber use it to promote their businesses and charities.
