Slack is not only a simple messaging service, it has become a comprehensive platform for enterprise software. At Salesforce World Tour event in New York City, the company announced the next evolution of its platform and the focus is now centered on Artificial Intelligence to streamline data retrieval and simplify workflow creation.
The introduction of ChatGPT powered AI from OpenAI to Slack is groundbreaking news. Chatbots are now your best virtual assistants in the workplace and makes it the latest innovator to utilize AI in the platform. Rob Seaman, the head of the AI team, is devoted to make Slack fully integrated with AI using different approaches. Last month, Slack released partnership with OpenAI to use its ChatGPT app on the platform which is currently under beta testing.
It is believed that the use of AI on Slack is situationally advantageous since the ‘institutional knowledge’ of the platform is mostly due to the messages, files, and clips shared. Clients are given lots of options to incorporate AI into their processes thanks to Slack Partner ecosystem. Slack is exploring AI from 3 angles and one of the upcoming features is AI-powered conversation summaries and composition writing tool.
However, it is a bit concerning that OpenAI and ChatGPT have a 30 day data retention policy for their APIs. Despite being impressive, AI cannot reliably remember past conversations after 30 days. This limitation raises questions about its reliability to compile any summary with both old and new data.
For now, Slack is still in the early stages of developing their strategy for native generative AI. To get the most out of this technology, it is important to ask relevant and specific questions.
