Siemens Launches Gridscale X for Autonomous Grid Management

Date:

Siemens has recently unveiled its latest innovation in grid management software, Gridscale X, designed to support autonomous grid operations and drive digital transformation for grid operators. The introduction of Gridscale X aims to enhance the visibility of distributed energy resources (DER) for grid operators, facilitating the transition to net zero and aiding in grid decarbonisation.

Sabine Erlinghagen, CEO of Siemens Grid Software, emphasized the significant shift in grid requirements driven by a seven-fold increase in distributed energy resources, exerting considerable pressure on power utilities. Gridscale X promises to enable grid operators to reevaluate their grid management strategies, enhance capacity promptly, and utilize distributed energy resources effectively to boost customer satisfaction. Ultimately, the software empowers utilities to achieve net-zero objectives while maintaining grid stability and reliability.

Jose Moreira, the regional head for grid software at Siemens Australia and New Zealand, welcomed the launch of Gridscale X, recognizing its pivotal role in supporting Australia’s ambitious plans to triple its power supply size in the coming years to meet 2030 targets. Moreira highlighted the modular nature of Gridscale X, offering utilities versatile software solutions to address pressing challenges related to the energy transition, such as rapidly scaling grid capacity, managing DER complexity, and enhancing grid flexibility. The software is designed for easy deployment and seamless integration into existing IT and OT environments, heralding a new era of grid management that adds substantial value to both current and prospective customers across planning, operations, and maintenance.

Siemens’ commitment to advancing the energy transition extends beyond the launch of Gridscale X, with initiatives such as establishing an Energy Transition Hub worth $5.2 million in collaboration with Swinburne University of Technology. The company is also collaborating with Swinburne on various research projects focusing on critical energy topics, including studies on wireless electric vehicle charging for trucks and buses and the development of responsible AI solutions for achieving net-zero targets.
