Vercel, a frontend cloud provider, is challenging Amazon S3 and Google Cloud by launching a suite of serverless storage solutions. These tools, developed in collaboration with Neon and Upstash, are designed to store and access data more efficiently and quickly, regardless of the user’s location. The aim is to provide an edge compute that is optimized for the frontend and has the necessary storage to power applications. Furthermore, Vercel’s suite of products includes Vercel KV, a Redis-compatible database, Vercel Postgres, a serverless SQL database, Vercel Blob, an object storage offering and Vercel Secure Compute.
Vercel’s CEO and founder Guillermo Rauch believes that multiple databases can have an important role in the future. According to him, “We are now seeing more specialized features and options from database providers. This will put the power in the hands of the developer to choose the best solution for each use case.” He also stated that the company’s cloud-focused efforts can help enterprises to connect their backend securely to Vercel, while providing extra security with dedicated compute infrastructure.
Vercel is known for its ‘framework-defined infrastructure’, allowing developers to create dynamic applications with the same speed as static, without any trade-offs. As an example of its innovation, the company has developed a content mapping tool called Vercel Visual Editing, which enables developers to edit content on websites without any code changes. Vercel Blob is another tool that has been designed to increase the efficiency of file storage with an API built on web-standards.
The company’s long-term vision is to continuously optimize the customer’s experience by continuing to develop serverless infrastructure. To this end, they are hosting in San Francisco on July 11-12, a gathering of executives and engineers to discuss how AI investments can be integrated and optimized for success. Those attending will get the chance to learn more about the power of Vercel’s cloud.
