Two US Senators have written to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg questioning the leak of the social media giant’s open-source large language model (LLM), known as LLaMA. Senators Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and Josh Hawley (R-MO), chair and ranking member respectively of the Senate Subcommittee on Privacy, Technology, & the Law, expressed concern over the potential for its misuse in spam, fraud, malware, privacy violations, harassment, and other wrongdoing and harms. LLaMA, released in February, was initially made available for download only by approved researchers, but soon surfaced on peer-to-peer file-sharing platform BitTorrent. The Senators called the move to pr distribute the model unrestrained and permissive.
