Security Concerns with Apple’s Internal ChatGPT Use

Date:

Apple Inc. has taken the step to restrict the use of OpenAI’s ChatGPT and other generative AI tools for their employees globally, according to the Wall Street Journal’s Thursday report. Internal documents of the company unveiled the company’s motive to prohibit the use of these tools, in order to protect confidential company information such as software development secrets from being leaked. Apple’s own desires to crack into the swiftly growing AI space, as it purchased two AI startups for a combined $250 million in 2020, may also be the cause of this action.

Samsung earlier this month reported an internal data leak due to the use of ChatGPT for some of their staff members. Other sound international companies like JPMorgan Chase, Deutsche Bank, Verizon, Northrop Grumman, Amazon and Accenture, to name a few, have all taken the initiative to ban or limit the ChatGPT use.

Verizon executives released a statement, signsifying the seriousness of the ban: “Currently,ChatGPT is not accessible from our corporate systems, as this can put us at risk of data loss.”
The InformationWeek has reached out to Apple Inc., looking for opposing comments concerning the ban.

The company Apple Inc. is famously known for designing, developing, and selling consumer electronics, computer software, and online services since its establishment back in 1976. It has become the world’s most valuable brand and is known for developing revolutionary products such as iPod, iPhone, iPad, and iTunes.

The Wall Street Journal was first to report this news on Thursday. The person behind this report is Rene Tirado, an expert journalist specialized in technology. He has worked with well-known companies, such as Google and Microsoft, and received the “Reporter of year 2019” award at the LinkedIn Storyteller Forum. Tirado is known for his depth in news analysis and has presented several reports on the latest technologies, due to his extensive experience in the online platform world.
