The Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) has embarked on an ambitious program to train 1,000 women from 28 countries in the fields of data and AI. Developed in collaboration with Google Cloud, the groundbreaking Elevate Program is set to revolutionize female participation in advanced technical domains.
The first phase of the program, which commenced in early May 2023, spans nearly four months and consists of four different online training levels. The comprehensive training utilizes various learning methods, including integrated learning approaches, recorded lessons, self-training modules, group-based and synchronous learning, open seminars, virtual courses, advanced labs, and specialized projects.
A team of experts from SDAIA supervises the training, with seven male and nine female trainers delivering over 340 hours of intensive instruction. The program caters to both technical experts and non-specialists looking to enhance their proficiency in technical fields.
The Elevate Program offers free-of-charge training sessions in disciplines such as Cloud Engineering, Data Engineering, Machine Learning Engineering, and Cloud Operations. The first phase of the program attracted 300 trainees with technical backgrounds and around 700 non-specialists.
These trainees hail from various countries, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Egypt, the United States, Nigeria, India, the United Kingdom, and many more. Over the course of five years, the program aims to train over 25,000 women globally, empowering them to excel in AI and machine learning and bridge the gender gap in scientific fields.
By providing women with the necessary skills and expertise, the Elevate Program opens up a broader spectrum of job opportunities and aligns with the United Nations’ 2023 Sustainable Development Goals. It not only equips individuals with the knowledge needed for success in emerging markets but also promotes inclusivity and diversity in the technology sector.
Saudi Arabia has made significant strides in empowering women in various sectors, including education, employment, and healthcare. The increase in Saudi Arabia’s female labor force participation to 37% in 2022 highlights the country’s commitment to gender equality and progress.
The Elevate Program serves as a milestone in Saudi Arabia’s ongoing efforts to empower women and harness their potential to drive innovation and growth. Through partnerships with leading industry players like Google Cloud, the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority is paving the way for a more inclusive and diverse future in the world of data and AI.
