Interestingly, despite its name, Circle to Search doesn’t require users to actually circle an item for a search. They can also drag a line across it, scribble on it, or simply tap it for the search to be initiated. The feature is generally accurate in recognizing the selected item. Users of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra can even use the S Pen for selection purposes, and they can adjust and resize the search selection using handles that appear around the item.
The search results that appear are similar to those obtained through Google Lens. Users can scroll down for more results and tap on a result to view it on the web. Additionally, users can add context to their searches by typing out additional queries in the search bar or using voice input. This feature allows for more complex searches beyond simple image searches.
However, there are certain limitations to Circle to Search. Users cannot currently select multiple items on the screen for comparison or run multiple searches simultaneously. The quality of the results may also vary based on the selected item and the presence of similar-looking images on the web.
Overall, Circle to Search is a useful addition to Android that works seamlessly on top of various apps, such as Instagram, webpages, or artwork on podcasts. Whether the content allows text selection or image saving, users can easily search for related information. To exit Circle to Search, users can tap on the X in the top-left corner. The top-right corner provides options to view search history and delete the last 15 minutes of search history.
