Samsung Electronics has made a triumphant return to the top spot as the world’s leading smartphone seller, surpassing Apple just five months after losing the title. The company’s latest AI-powered Galaxy S24 smartphones have been a significant driver behind this success, drawing praise from industry experts and data analysts.
In February, Samsung sold 19.69 million smartphones, securing a 20% market share, outperforming Apple, which sold 17.41 million units for an 18% share, as reported by Counterpoint Research. The strong sales performance in the United States and European markets played a pivotal role in Samsung’s resurgence.
In Europe, Samsung maintained its dominance with a 34% market share, while in the U.S., the company experienced a remarkable increase from 20% to 36% market share, challenging Apple’s stronghold in the region. Apple’s market share in the U.S. declined from 64% to 48% during the same period.
Last year, Samsung lost its long-held position as the top global smartphone seller to Apple for the first time in 13 years. To reverse this trend, Samsung introduced the Galaxy S24 series in January, featuring advanced AI capabilities and enhanced camera functions that have garnered positive feedback from consumers worldwide.
The Galaxy S24 smartphones boast innovative AI features such as real-time language translation during calls and the Circle to Search function, allowing users to search by drawing a circle on the screen. Additionally, the camera on the Galaxy S24 Ultra was recently rated as the best in the world by the Consumer Reports magazine, surpassing Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro Max.
With sales of 6.53 million units by the end of February, the Galaxy S24 series has proven to be a game-changer for Samsung, helping the company regain its leadership position in the global smartphone market. Samsung’s continuous commitment to innovation and user-centric technology has solidified its position as a frontrunner in the highly competitive smartphone industry.
