Samsung Electronics has implemented a ban on among their staff members for the use of generative AI tools, such as ChatGPT, as a response to the data leak that occurred back in April. The information that had been uploaded to the ChatGPT platform by Samsung engineers is currently unknown.
In order to create a more secure workplace environment, a memo was issued from Samsung to their staff, which included the prohibition of using externally connected AI platforms such as ChatGPT on any company-owned devices or internal networks.
The use of generative AI has sparked a lot of curiosity not only among their employees but also beyond the company. Their memo attempted to address the potential security risks that these technologies may present on company data. As a result, they have imposed rules against submitting any sort of company or personal data that could disclose their intellectual property on any sort of personal device or platform. These rules come with a consequence and can result in dismissal if broken.
After ChatGPT gained huge public attention due to its launch from OpenAI, and its subsequent use by some of the most notable Wall Street banks such as JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America and Citigroup, many other countries such as Italy have issued their own bans on the platform over privacy concerns.
However, Italy has changed its standpoint recently and certain permissions and regulations around the use of AI platforms like ChatGPT is slowly being introduced.
