OpenAI, founded by tech entrepreneur Sam Altman, is a company focused on developing Artificial Intelligence (AI) for the benefit of all humanity. Their mission is to ensure that AI is safely and responsibly used for the good of all people. Recently, Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, has embarked on a world-wide tour to promote the company and its AI-driven offerings.
Altman and OpenAI have announced plans to visit 17 different cities worldwide, spanning North America, the Middle East, Europe, and Asia, including Tokyo and Melbourne. During the tour, Sam Altman will be pushing OpenAI’s plans to open more offices across the world. In addition, Altman will meet with prime ministers, technological and business leaders, and discuss the importance of using AI responsibly, in an effort to drive open and trust-based AI technology.
The tour announcement follows the the recent open letter to pause the development of Artificial Intelligence, strongly endorsed by tech luminaries like Elon Musk, Steve Wozniak, and thousands of other industry leaders. Altman is aware of the concerns of the people, and looks to use this tour to reach out to individuals and countries across the world to discuss the ethical and responsible use of AI technology.
At the same time, OpenAI have been pushing forward their technology. The launch of GPT-4, a Natural Language Processing (NLP) tool, and ChatGPT has stirred the tech industry’s interest in the potential of OpenAI’s cutting-edge AI capabilities. However, the Italian government has temporarily banned the use of ChatGPT, citing data privacy concerns, and an FTC complaint has been filed against GPT-4 due to a security vulnerability.
It is clear that now more than ever AI technology needs to be open and trust-based. Businesses and governments are constantly facing new AI related challenges, as implementation of AI grows. For example, Walmart’s Global Technology arm has used GPT-4 to advance their conversational AI capabilities, and Linkedin’s engineering team developed their own generative AI tool in just 3 month.
It is evident that using AI responsibly and safely is more important than ever. Sam Altman’s world-wide tour provides an opportunity to connect people across all facets of the AI industry and open up conversations around responsible and ethical development and use of Artificial Intelligence.
