Roleverse, a platform that allows users to create their own games using generative AI, is aiming to empower players by combining their creative vision with cutting-edge technology. CEO Jani Penttinen explains that Roleverse is more than just a tool for entering text prompts and hoping for the best – rather, the platform asks users questions to help them narrow down their desired game quickly and easily.
The power of Roleverse lies in its ability to create emergent gameplay that surprises players with unexpected twists and turns. Rather than view AI as a threat, Roleverse sees the technology as a valuable tool for unlocking player creativity. Even if players lack coding skills, they can still modify settings to create their perfect vision for a game.
Roleverse uses OpenAI’s GPT-4 AI model and is linked to Google’s Bard model, enabling the platform to create anything from enemies to changes in landscape. A proxy server calls on the API to control the AI, which can make the world more dangerous or spooky as desired. The language model can even generate its own backstory, creating an immersive gaming experience that puts players at the center of the action.
Roleverse is currently accepting playtesters and expects to launch in October 2023. The company has designed game templates and has been teaching the AI how to create a satisfying gaming session with a great story that establishes the world for players. A final note from Penttinen indicates that when their first real game arrives, it will be free to play with in-app purchases for additional content. Although there is no direct text input from the user, Roleverse aims to keep the platform family-friendly.
