According to a report from Check Point, the average weekly attacks in India in the first quarter of 2023 rose by 18 percent compared to the same period of last year. Each organisation was hit with a total of 2,108 attacks. This indicates a worrying trend in cyberattacks due to the rise of automation tools like ChatGPT, which less-skilled threat actors can use to easily launch attacks. 3CXDesktop app was also found to beTrojanized, likely as part of a supply chain attack.
Globally, weekly attacks rose by 7 percent since the same quarter in 2022, with 1,248 attacks per week per organisation. Education and research sectors came under particularly heavy strain, with an average of 2,507 attacks per organization per week, a 15 percent rise from the same quarter in 2022. The Asia-Pacific region experienced an even more pronounced 16 percent rise in weekly attacks, with 1,835 per week per organisation. Worryingly, 1 in 31 organisations experienced a ransomware attack in this quarter.
