Starr expressed his fondness for EPs, a format he has enjoyed since its inception in the 1960s. The title Rewind Forward is a classic Ringoism, an unusual phrase that reflects Starr’s unique perspective. When asked about the meaning, he humorously suggested that it signifies looking back and realizing that one was better in the past. However, he admitted that he made up the explanation.
Starr collaborated with several friends and musicians on the four-track EP, including his long-time engineer and co-writer Bruce Sugar, Steve Lukather of the All Starr Band, Joe Williams from Toto, Benmont Tench and Mike Campbell from Tom Petty’s Heartbreakers, and many more. Notably, one of the songs on the EP, Feeling the Sunlight, was written by Paul McCartney, Starr’s fellow Beatle and frequent collaborator.
A common theme in Starr’s solo work, including Rewind Forward, is unrelenting optimism. He believes that even in challenging circumstances, peace and love can see one through. This optimistic spirit has propelled him forward, and despite being a veteran performer, he continues to tour and delight audiences.
Starr expressed his love for performing live, stating, I get everything I need from it. He also hinted at more EP releases in the future, particularly focused on country music.
