Review of “Ghosted”: Chris Evans and Ana de Armas Fail to Create Chemistry in This Tediously Dull Action-Comedy (Exclusive)

Date:

Ghosted, the new action-comedy starring Chris Evans and Ana de Armas, elicits disappointingly small laughs and brings zero chemistry between its two leads. The film was directed by Dexter Fletcher, who was behind the successful musical biopic Rocketman, and follows the story of Cole, a farmer portrayed by Evans, who takes a risky mission after being ghosted following a successful date with Sadie (de Armas).

When one looks at the posters, it appears that commercialism got the better of Ghosted as its marketing strategy had no kicker and the film suffered as a result. Right off the bat, the audience is treated to a great date scene between Evans and de Armas. Unfortunately, the chemistry between the leads dissipates from here on out. Ghosted becomes one of the dullest action-adventures I have ever seen as it changes tone abruptly, throwing the audience for a loop. Even the charm of Chris Evans does not save Ghosted from becoming a chore to get through.

The villain of the story, Leveque, is played by Adrien Brody. His character is seriously cringe-worthy as the jokes are repetitive, taken from 2000s action film, and feel written by an artificial intelligence. The action scenes themselves do not rank better as they feel generic and unimaginative as if the film copied them from other movies. To make matters worse, the song placement was dated and the songs did not fit in the story.

Ghosted is the perfect example of why streaming services streaming services have become so saturated with content. It is unoriginal, dull, and provide little to no entertainment value. Evans and de Armas have already proven to have great chemistry, which makes it quite baffling that they did not bring any in this film.
