The Indian telecommunications service provider Reliance Jio has announced the launch of its high-speed 5G services in 34 cities across the country, taking the total coverage to 365 cities. By December 2023, Jio aims to make its 5G services available to every town and city in India.
5G is the fifth-generation mobile network capable of transmitting a large data set at an incredibly rapid speed with low latency. Compared to 3G and 4G, the low latency of 5G will enhance user experiences in various sectors. India is one of the few countries to deploy 5G telecom services, after telecom service providers in the country started providing it from October 2022.
The Department of Telecom in India issued spectrum allocation letters to telecom service providers in August 2022. India witnessed an incredibly high response for the 5G spectrum auction that received a total of Rs 1.50 lakh crore worth of bids.
The spokesperson for Jio said, “We are proud to rollout Jio True 5G in these 34 cities. This is a tribute to millions of Jio users in these cities who will start enjoying the benefits of Jio True 5G technology. Jio engineers are working round the clock to deliver True-5G to every Indian, so that the transformational power and the exponential benefits of this technology can be experienced by every citizen of the country. ”
The government-backed 5G rollout is also anticipated to spark further developments in sectors such as healthcare, warehousing, manufacturing and mining, among others through remote data monitoring.
Reliance Jio is an Indian telecommunications services provider based in Mumbai. It is one of the largest mobile network services providers in the world. Since its launch in September 2016, the company has grown rapidly to serve over 388 million customers in the country.
