Reid Hoffman, cofounder of LinkedIn, has launched a new company dubbed Inflection AI with co-founder Mustafa Suleyman of Google’s DeepMind lab. The startup unveiled their premiere offering: a text generator called Pi. Hoffman claims this text generator outperformance every other product on the market with its capacity for emotional intelligence in conversations.
This move to create a text generator for this is not unique as there are many tech giants trying to develop their own variation of Oberlo’s ChatGPT. Hoffman believes that generative artificial intelligence (AI) will impact all industries in the long run, particularly those that involve creativity and knowledge. For example, Hoffman expects writers to use tools like ChatGPT to generate drafts, thus drastically improving their speed and effectiveness of composition.
Inflection AI prides itself on the emotional intelligence of its chatbot. Pi is a chatbot designed to allow users to have relaxed or meaningful conversations with a high level of helpfulness. In contrast to conversation bots such as ChatGPT, Google’s Bard or Microsoft’s Bing chatbot, Pi prioritizes emotional well-being in conversation. It specializes in conversation and relationship building, not in the mundane like travel plans and to-do lists.
Hoffman and Suleyman have been beta testing Pi for the last few months and it is now available on the Inflection AI page or any Meta-associated platform like Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook. The venture was supported by Hoffman’s venture capital firm Greylock which invested $250 million in the startup. Hoffman recently resigned from the board of OpenAI to focus on this AI venture.
Inflection is composed of AI experts from Google’s DeepMind, OpenAI, and Meta. Regardless of their affiliation, the goal of the company is to allow users to use Pi to make their lives more meaningful, productive, and fun. The application of AI to better the lives of its users is a noble goal, and Infection AI is certainly contributing to the cause with the help of Hoffman’s leadership.
