Looking through Rams history, it is hard to rank their top 15 players of all time given the illustrious career those who have worn the horns have had. Taking the human’s element out entirely, the viral language chatbot, ChatGPT, was utilized to rank the best of the best Rams players. Considering the limited data, the results that were generated by the AI were quite reasonable.
The main issue with the algorithmic ranking was the placement of Aaron Donald. Despite winning a Super Bowl in 2022, his ranking was quite low (No. 14). This was mainly due to the fact that ChatGPT does not consider performances that have occurred from 2022 and on. This ultimately takes away Donald’s tremendous accomplishments in the league, which is a disservice. Additionally, Cooper Kupp was unfortunately left off the list, which is quite surprising, having won Offensive Player of the Year after the 2021 season and a Super Bowl ring.
Notable Rams that were included among the top 15 are Roman Gabriel, Torry Holt, Deacon Jones, Jack Youngblood, Marshall Faulk, Eric Dickerson, Kurt Warner, Orlando Pace, and Isaac Bruce. All these players have become household names for Rams fans. What is hard to argue against is the amount of success that came from them all. Whether it was championships won, individual stats and awards, or postseason success, all of these players were vital components to the glory days of Rams football.
To conclude, the algorithmic rankings, generated by ChatGPT, managed to do a decent job at separating out the best of the best Rams players. Even though it was not nearly perfect, it is hard to argue with its accuracy. There is no doubt that Aaron Donald should have been placed much higher on the list, as his accolades and accomplishments are hard to dispute. That being said, the AI was still able to recognize some of the greatest Rams of all time.
