Qatar and Singapore have reinforced their relations and committed to enhancing cooperation across multiple fields following a successful visit by Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, to Singapore. The prime minister chaired the delegation of Qatar during the Eighth Meeting of the Qatar-Singapore High-Level Joint Committee and held talks with President Halimah Yacob and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
The discussions focused on strengthening existing cooperation between the two countries and exploring avenues for further development in various sectors, including politics, economics, investment, education, tourism, civil development, joint investment projects, and artificial intelligence. Both sides highlighted the significance of the agreements and memorandums of understanding signed between them and exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
To deepen their collaboration, several memorandums of understanding and cooperation were signed between the governments of Qatar and Singapore during the visit. Additionally, HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani delivered the inaugural lecture of the Raffles Lectures series, organized by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS). In his speech, he shared Qatar’s vision on addressing challenges faced by small and medium-sized countries, enhancing security cooperation, achieving comprehensive and sustainable security, leveraging modern technology, fostering environmental sustainability, and promoting peaceful solutions to conflicts and wars.
He also emphasized the importance of Qatar’s relationship with Singapore and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The continuous strengthening of their ties is considered a successful model for a remarkable partnership.
The joint statement issued at the Eighth Meeting of the High-Level Joint Committee highlighted the committee’s role as a crucial platform for expanding the robust Qatari-Singaporean partnership. It reflected the commitment of both nations to maintaining and promoting peace, security, and prosperity in the region. They also expressed their support for an ASEAN-centered, open, inclusive, transparent, resilient, and rules-based regional architecture grounded in international law.
Accompanying HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani during the visit were notable members such as Minister of Finance HE Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari, Minister of Commerce and Industry HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Qassim Al-Thani, Minister of Education and Higher Education HE Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi, Minister of Social Development and Family HE Mariam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad, Qatar Airways CEO HE Akbar Al Baker, Chairman of the Qatar Free Zones Authority HE Ahmad bin Mohamed Al Sayed, President of the Civil Service and Government Development Bureau HE Abdulaziz bin Nasser bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, and Chief of Asia Pacific and Africa Investments at Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) HE Sheikh Faisal bin Thani Al-Thani.
The conclusion of the prime minister’s visit further solidifies the commitment of Qatar and Singapore to enhance cooperation and strengthen their partnership in various fields. With a shared emphasis on peace, security, and prosperity, the two nations are set to continue their successful model of collaboration for mutual growth and development.
