OpenAI, one of the world’s leading AI companies, has announced the introduction of a new business plan for ChatGPT, its AI-powered chatbot. The plan will offer more control over the handling of data for enterprise customers, and the announcement also includes new privacy controls and the ability to export data.
This offering, called ChatGPT Business, follows OpenAI’s API data usage policies, which are designed to protect user privacy. The new subscription tier is expected to become available in the upcoming months.
ChatGPT Plus, the first paid tier, was launched in February and is offered at $20 per month. Since the launch of the service, OpenAI has seen unprecedented growth and estimates to have nearly 100 million monthly active users.
In order to provide more to their customers, OpenAI recently launched Plugins for ChatGPT, granting the bot access to third-party knowledge sources and databases like the web. However, the chatbot has been subject to criticism and controversy, leading to ChatGPT’s ban in Italy and further investigations by other countries.
Sam Altman, Co-Founder and CEO of OpenAI, has noted that the service is expensive to operate and costs OpenAI a few cents per chat in compute costs. To combat this, OpenAI released the new privacy controls, enabling all users to turn off their chat history. If the user chooses to turn off the chat history, the conversations will not be used to train OpenAI’s models and will remain private for 30 days.
OpenAI also allows users to request their data to be sent in a file to the email address associated with their OpenAI account. This puts OpenAI in compliance with the GDPR, a regulation set to ensure the protection of data across the continent.
