Predator Ridge, a popular resort located in Vernon, British Columbia, has recently bolstered its wildfire safety measures by implementing cutting-edge AI-based detection systems. This innovative technology, known as SenseNet, utilizes advanced sensors, AI algorithms, and real-time data analysis to provide highly accurate and early alerts in the event of a wildfire threat.
The decision to install the SenseNet technology at Predator Ridge follows a successful two-year pilot project in collaboration with the City of Vernon and Vernon Fire Rescue Services. During the pilot phase, the technology underwent rigorous testing, consistently demonstrating its accuracy and speed in providing real-time data crucial for emergency response efforts and public safety.
With the installation of one hundred sensors, five gateways, and five cameras strategically positioned around the resort’s perimeter, Predator Ridge now boasts comprehensive wildfire detection capabilities, including gas sensing and thermal imaging. This state-of-the-art system enables 24/7 monitoring and management by Vernon Fire Rescue Services, empowering them to swiftly respond to any potential wildfire threats.
Chief David Lind, the director of fire rescue services, emphasized the importance of proactive measures in protecting communities from the devastating effects of forest fires. By leveraging innovative technologies like SenseNet, Predator Ridge is taking a proactive approach to safeguarding its community and natural environment from wildfire risks.
In addition to real-time monitoring and detection, the SenseNet technology provides access to 360-degree views, AI-driven smoke detection, and data-driven response capabilities. This integrated approach, combining AI with data from various sources such as sensors, cameras, satellites, and weather inputs, allows for rapid wildfire detection and predictive analysis of wildfire behavior.
Given the unique natural landscape of Predator Ridge, encompassing over 1,300 acres of desert-like grassland, the region is particularly susceptible to wildfire risks during periods of extreme heat, drought, air quality concerns, and lightning strikes. By investing in advanced wildfire detection technologies, Predator Ridge is taking proactive steps to enhance the safety and resilience of its community in the face of potential wildfire threats.
