PMI, the world’s leading organization for the project management profession, aims to empower project professionals worldwide to embrace and leverage AI, machine learning (ML), and generative AI (GenAI). They are developing various tools, resources, and learning opportunities to support project professionals in utilizing AI-powered technology while maintaining the importance of human touch in project management.
According to PMI’s research, organizations that prioritize power skills—the interpersonal skills that project managers bring to projects—are more successful in completing projects that align with business goals. They also waste less investment due to poor project performance compared to the global average. In contrast, organizations that place a low priority on power skills experience higher investment wastage. McKinsey estimates that GenAI and other technologies have the potential to automate work activities that currently consume 60 to 70% of employees’ time. However, tools cannot automate power skills such as communication, problem-solving, collaborative leadership, and strategic thinking, which are crucial for project success.
