PM Modi to Launch India’s First Water Metro in Kochi Today – Latest India News

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate India’s first Water Metro in Kochi, Kerala today. The Water Metro connects 10 islands around Kochi through battery-operated electric hybrid boats, providing seamless connectivity between the islands and the city. It is emerged as an innovative and one of a kind urban mass transit system with the same experience of a conventional metro.

Kochi Metro Rail Limited’s Managing Director stated that the inauguration of this project by the Prime Minister is game-changing transport system for Kochi surrounded with many islands and out of them, 10 islands are very densely populated. This Water Metro provides sustainable, regular, and luxurious transport service at an affordable price for people who depend on the mainland.

PM Modi is on a two-day visit to Kerala and will be laying the foundation for various projects amounting to over Rs 3200 crore. Apart from Kochi Water Metro, he will also dedicate the rail electrification of the Dindigul-Palani-Palakkad section. He will also lay the foundation of different rail projects, the redevelopment of Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode, and Varkala Sivagiri railway stations; comprehensive development of Thiruvananthapuram area including Nemon and Kochuveli; and increasing the sectional speed of Thiruvananthapuram-Shoranur section.

On his arrival to Kerala, Prime Minister Modi took part in a mega roadshow in Kochi, donning traditional Kerala attire. People lined up on both sides of the street and cheered him as he walked by, showering flower petals in-between. He will also flag off the Vande Bharat Express between Thiruvananthapuram and Kasargod at Thiruvananthapuram Central Station tomorrow.
