Hyperspectral imagery startup Pixxel has secured $36 million in funding to introduce new remote sensing and analytics functions. Google led the firm’s Series B fund round, although Pixxel claims it was already working with Google as client. The search engine has been using Pixxel’s hyperspectral data in agricultural applications, and several of Pixxel’s customers use Google’s Earth Engine service. Pixxel has developed hyperspectral technology since 2019 and, last year, launched three demonstration satellites. The new financing will facilitate the production of Pixxel’s next-gen Firefly constellation, scheduled for launch in early 2024.
