PAW Patrol and Saw X Battle for Box Office Supremacy, $20M Opening Projected
This weekend is set to see the release of four major movies, each vying for box office supremacy. Paramount’s family-friendly PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie, Lionsgate’s R-rated Saw X, 20th Century’s sci-fi epic The Creator, and Sony’s GameStop stock story Dumb Money are all hitting theaters.
Leading the pack is PAW Patrol, based on the popular kids TV series. The movie follows a team of search and rescue dogs as they save Adventure City. With an estimated opening of $18 million to $20 million, PAW Patrol is expected to come out on top. The star-studded voice cast includes McKenna Grace, Taraji P. Henson, Marsai Martin, Kim Kardashian, Chris Rock, and James Marsden. This sequel aims to outperform the original, which earned $13 million in its 2021 opening.
Sitting right on the heels of PAW Patrol is Saw X, the tenth installment of the gory franchise. Tobin Bell returns as the infamous serial killer, Jigsaw, in a movie that takes place between the original Saw and Saw II. With an estimated opening of $15 million to $18 million (and some projections going as high as $20 million to $25 million), Saw X is ready to give PAW Patrol a run for its money. The previous entries in the franchise, 2021’s Spiral and 2017’s Jigsaw, opened with $8.7 million and $16.6 million, respectively.
Meanwhile, The Creator brings us a sci-fi drama directed by Gareth Edwards and starring John David Washington. The film explores the concept of AI control and is expected to rake in $16 million to $19 million at the box office. While it may settle for third place this weekend, The Creator promises an exciting and thought-provoking cinematic experience.
Lastly, Dumb Money tells the story of the Wall Street-Reddit battle over GameStop stock in 2021. With a star-studded cast including Seth Rogen, Paul Dano, Pete Davidson, and America Ferrera, this film is projected to make $5 million to $8 million in its wide release.
In Thursday previews, Saw X already made an impressive $2 million, while The Creator brought in $1.6 million. These early figures indicate a strong start for both movies and hint at a competitive weekend at the box office.
As audiences flock back to theaters, these four diverse films offer something for everyone. Whether you’re looking for a family-friendly adventure with talking dogs, a thrilling and bloody horror experience, a mind-bending sci-fi journey, or a tale rooted in real-world financial events, there’s a movie that caters to your tastes. As the battle for box office supremacy begins, it remains to be seen which film will claim the crown.
