Pakistan is making waves in its legal system as the Phalia court recently utilized cutting-edge artificial intelligence technology to pass a verdict in a juvenile kidnapping case. According to Samaa news, the court employed the ChatGPT-4 chatbot, developed by OpenAI, to process a case involving a thirteen-year-old boy charged with kidnapping a nine-year-old boy and transporting him to a remote location.
The court noted in its verdict that it wanted to experiment with the use of ChatGPT-4 to deliver crisp and smart decisions according to the law. The judge posed questions to the chatbot before granting the petitioner bail in exchange for surety bonds valued at Rs.50,000. Following this, the ChatGPT-4 provided a response citing the facts of the case and reinforced the decision to grant bail.
Prior to the aforementioned case, the court had also utilized GPT-4 technology in a civil case. This highlights ChatGPT-4’s potential to streamline the legal process, allowing for quicker verdicts and thus, reducing any backlog of cases.
