Oracle, a leading tech giant, is set to offer free training in artificial intelligence (AI) to up to 10,000 students and professionals in Singapore over the next three years. This initiative is part of their commitment to enhancing the nation’s digital workforce and aligns with Singapore’s goal of tripling its pool of AI practitioners to 15,000 within the next five years.
Safra Catz, CEO of Oracle, emphasized the importance of education, highlighting the company’s dedication to investing in this area. Oracle has a history of supporting education, including running a public high school on its campus in California, where students receive mentorship, internships, and specialized tech classes.
In Singapore, Oracle has been actively involved in promoting computing education in various institutions. Recently, the company offered internships and apprenticeships to students and graduates across five polytechnics, with the possibility of employment at the end of their training period.
As part of their latest educational efforts, Oracle University will provide foundational training in AI, cloud computing, cyber security, and data management to the aspiring professionals in Singapore. While the basic training will be free, professional-level courses and certifications will require payment.
In addition to the training initiatives, Oracle will be opening a new data centre in Singapore in July to support the growing demand for computing resources in the region. This move is in line with the company’s strategic shift towards cloud computing services, aiming to compete with industry giants like Amazon and Google.
Ms. Catz highlighted Oracle’s expertise in databases as a key advantage in the cloud computing and AI sectors, positioning the company for success in the evolving tech landscape. With multiple cloud regions worldwide and a strong emphasis on education and training, Oracle is poised to play a significant role in shaping Singapore’s digital workforce and technological advancement.
