Oppo, the popular smartphone manufacturer, has recently announced its latest flagship phone, the Oppo Find X7 Ultra. This new device stands out from the competition with its dual periscope cameras, making it the world’s first phone to sport such a feature. The inclusion of periscope cameras is not entirely new in the smartphone industry, but having two of them in a single rear-camera array is a unique offering.
The Oppo Find X7 Ultra incorporates the brand’s HyperTone Camera System, developed in partnership with camera specialists Hasselblad. This system promises fast shooting, flexible optical zooming, AI enhancements, and a pro-grade Master Mode option. The phone is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor and a powerful 5,000mAh battery that supports Oppo’s SuperVOOC fast charging technology.
One of the key highlights of the Oppo Find X7 Ultra is its camera system. It boasts four cameras with 50-megapixel sensors, offering the potential for sharp and detailed photos in various shooting scenarios. The primary camera features a large 1-inch type Sony LYT-900 sensor with a 23mm focal length, f/1.8 aperture, and optical image stabilization. The ultra-wide-angle camera uses a LYT-600 sensor, providing a 14mm equivalent focal length and dynamic macro photography capabilities. The phone also includes two periscope telephoto cameras using Sony IMX980 and IMX858 sensors, offering 3x and 6x zoom, respectively.
Not only do these larger sensors enhance low-light performance and overall image quality, but Oppo has also developed its HyperTone Image Engine to ensure natural-looking photos. Additionally, the phone features two Hasselblad modes: Portrait Mode, which aims to replicate the style of classic Hasselblad cameras for cinematic bokeh, and Master Mode, which provides manual controls and RAW MAX capability for professional-grade photography.
In terms of specifications, the Oppo Find X7 Ultra is powered by the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip and comes with either 12GB or 16GB of RAM. It offers three storage configurations: 256GB with 12GB RAM, 256GB with 16GB RAM, and 512GB with 16GB RAM. The phone boasts a large 6.82-inch display with a 3,168 x 1,440 resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and up to 4,500 nits brightness. It comes in three color options: Ocean Blue, Tailored Black, and Sepia Brown.
However, the availability of the Oppo Find X7 Ultra is currently limited to mainland China, with no global release plans announced yet. As for pricing, it starts at ¥5,999 (approximately $845 / £663 / AU$1,281) for the 12GB RAM and 256GB storage version, while the 16GB RAM with 512GB storage option is priced at ¥6,999 (around $986 / £773 / AU$1,495).
While the Oppo Find X7 Ultra certainly presents an impressive array of features and specifications, it remains to be seen how it will fare against its competitors like the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Nevertheless, Oppo’s partnership with Hasselblad and the innovative use of dual periscope cameras make it an intriguing option for mobile photography enthusiasts.
