OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has warned that artificial intelligence (AI) poses an existential risk to humanity. Speaking during a visit to the United Arab Emirates, Altman suggested that an international agency, similar to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), oversee the technology. Altman made reference to the IAEA as an example of how the world came together in the aftermath of World War II to oversee nuclear power. Artificial intelligence is being examined by lawmakers globally, with the European Union pursuing an AI Law that could become the de facto standard for AI regulation.
