OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has clarified comments he made earlier this week at the ET Conversations event in New Delhi that were apparently interpreted as a slight against Indian AI companies. Altman had said at the event it was totally hopeless to compete with us (OpenAI) on training foundation models, citing a hypothetical scenario in which three engineers with $10 million tried to emulate the feat. However, Altman responded on Twitter after Tech Mahindra MD and CEO CP Gurnani challenged him on the comments, stating his remarks had been taken out of context and that he had no doubt that Indian startups could create something new.Â
