OpenAI is gearing up to launch an enhanced voice mode feature for ChatGPT Plus subscribers this fall, following a delayed rollout. The upcoming advanced voice mode promises to offer a more engaging and interactive experience compared to the current voice mode.
Initially unveiled in May at the GPT-4o launch event, the premium feature allows employees to interrupt and request the chatbot to narrate stories in various ways. Notably, the new model can recognize and respond to humor, sarcasm, and more without needing to convert speech to text and back again, resulting in faster interactions.
Originally slated for a late June release, the rollout was postponed by one month to enhance the model’s ability to detect and reject certain content. OpenAI conducted extensive testing with over 100 external red teamers to identify potential vulnerabilities and improve security measures.
Despite the exciting advancements, OpenAI’s voice mode has faced scrutiny for its resemblance to Scarlett Johansson’s voice. This led to concerns over impersonation and privacy issues, prompting the company to implement stricter measures. The new ChatGPT version will feature four preset voices created with voice actors to prevent impersonation of individuals or public figures.
The highly anticipated advanced voice mode is set to be available to all ChatGPT Plus users in the fall, offering a more immersive and personalized AI experience. With enhanced filters and improved security features, OpenAI aims to provide a seamless and enjoyable interaction for subscribers.
