OpenAI Unveils ChatGPT for Businesses

Date:

OpenAI, a research company funded by Microsoft, is set to launch ChatGPT, a natural language AI platform tailored for enterprise users, in the coming months. As an effort to protect user privacy and ensure compliance with data regulations, the business-friendly version of the popular chatbot will have an array of spruced up data controls.

The idea is to keep conversations conducted on the platform away from training data, to prevent it from being used to regenerate models. ChatGPT’s settings menu now features a special ‘incognito mode’ option that deletes conversation history once the conversation reaches the end. This is a drastic change from the system they had before, which required users to opt-out of conversation history manually, and was total handled by OpenAI’s staff.

Since its launch in November 2022, ChatGPT has exploded in popularity, becoming one of the most used consumer apps in history. This meteoric rise has caught the attention of data protection watchdogs who, in Italy for instance, prohibited OpenAI from processing user data until it conformed to the requirements of GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation).

European countries, the US and other countries around the world are now all looking for ways to legally regulate these large language AI tools in an effort to better understand the data and its usage. Disregarding the GDPR legislation can incur hefty fines for companies, so it is important for OpenAI to take the initiative and make sure their users data is always secure.

The new data controls from within ChatGPT, such as the incognito mode, are a vital step towards gaining the trust of users and governmental bodies alike. Every conversation has its own settings which can be tweaked at any time, and OpenAI is aiming to create a platform where users have the ultimate control over their data.
