Artifact, the news app created by the co-founders of Instagram, Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, recently launched a new feature that utilizes OpenAI technology. This feature allows users to automatically generate summaries of articles in different tones including emojis, poetry, Gen Z figure of speech, and a simpler version called ‘Explain like I’m five’.
The OpenAI technology used in this AI powered feature is well known for generating summaries even though they can make mistakes from time to time. Recently, DuckDuckGo also incorporated OpenAI in their search engine to make a summary of Wikipedia articles.
Artifact believes that this new feature is helpful in understanding an article’s main points before diving in and reading it in full. The company recommends users to read the original article to verify if the summary generated by the AI accurately depicts it. It was recently released to the public after users had to register for the waitlist using their phone numbers.
Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger left the social media giant Facebook in 2018 after spending eight years there to build the next generation of social apps. Artifact utilizes machine learning to curate its personalized new feed and better understand its users’ preferences.
OpenAI is a San Francisco-based startup that was established in 2016 by Elon Musk.
