The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is teaming up with OpenAI to launch a pilot project in Bangladesh and other countries, focusing on an education chatbot powered by OpenAI known as ‘aprendIA’. This initiative aims to provide crucial support to educators working in crisis zones, helping them navigate challenges and offer quality education to those in need.
Under this program, large nonprofits will enjoy a 50% discount on the enterprise-grade version of ChatGPT, a cutting-edge AI system developed by OpenAI. Smaller nonprofits opting for ChatGPT Team will benefit from a reduced rate of $20 per month per user, down from the standard $25 or $30 fee.
The partnership between OpenAI and IRC also includes a generous donation of $250,000 from OpenAI to the IRC. This funding will fuel the development of the education chatbot based on OpenAI technology, reinforcing IRC’s mission to assist individuals affected by humanitarian crises, including the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
OpenAI’s release of ChatGPT in 2022 sparked widespread adoption of generative AI technology across various sectors, ranging from writing to coding. The enterprise version of ChatGPT is poised to become a significant revenue stream for the company, as it offers advanced capabilities tailored to the needs of large organizations.
By leveraging OpenAI’s advanced AI capabilities through the ‘aprendIA’ chatbot, IRC aims to revolutionize education delivery in crisis-affected areas and empower educators with innovative tools and resources. This strategic collaboration exemplifies the transformative potential of AI technology in enhancing humanitarian efforts and promoting inclusive access to quality education worldwide.
