OpenAI Launches New Text Features and Pricing Reductions

OpenAI, the artificial intelligence research lab, has released new upgrades to its generative text models while also reducing its pricing. OpenAI’s latest text-generating AI, GPT-4, includes a new feature called function calling, which allows AI developers to describe programming functions that the model can execute. Function calling can enable chatbots to answer questions, convert natural language into database queries, and extract structured data from text. Additionally, OpenAI has expanded the context window in GPT-3.5-turbo, which offers four times the context length and can ingest up to 20 pages of text in a single go. Despite the expanded capabilities and improvements, OpenAI has reduced the pricing for its models. Developers can now use the GPT-3.5-turbo model for $0.0015 per 1,000 input tokens and $0.002 per 1,000 output tokens, a 25% reduction from the original price. The text-embedding-ada-002 model’s pricing has also been reduced by 75%. OpenAI stated that the reduction was made possible due to the increased efficiency of its systems. OpenAI has indicated that it plans to focus on incremental updates to existing models rather than introducing new ones from scratch.
