Beginning Monday, OpenAI will allow users to access its ChatGPT generative AI chatbot without the need for signing up. This move aims to make AI more accessible to those curious about its capabilities. ChatGPT, known for its ability to mimic human conversation and perform various tasks like creating summaries, writing poems, and generating party ideas, kickstarted the GenAI trend back in late 2022.
Despite experiencing a slowdown in growth since May 2023, OpenAI’s ChatGPT remains a popular service. The company has decided to introduce additional content safeguards for users accessing ChatGPT without sign-ups, such as blocking certain prompts and generations in unspecified categories.
Alongside the free version of ChatGPT, which does not have direct internet access, OpenAI provides paid versions tailored for individuals, team users, and enterprises. Users can also choose to provide content to help improve the company’s large-language models, with an option to disable this feature.
This announcement comes shortly after billionaire Elon Musk filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and its CEO, Sam Altman, alleging that they shifted away from the startup’s original mission of developing AI for the greater good, rather than for profit. Despite these challenges, OpenAI remains dedicated to expanding access to its AI technologies for all who are interested in exploring its potential.
