OpenAI Hires Chief Congressional Lobbyist to Expand its Influence in Washington

Date:

OpenAI, the artificial intelligence research laboratory, is looking to hire a Congressional Lead to join its public policy team. This comes as lawmakers in the US are working to develop a regulatory framework for advanced AI technology. The salary range for the role is between $180,000 to $230,000 per annum, with the company seeking someone with an established network on Capitol Hill and a deep understanding of AI policy issues. The successful candidate will spearhead the non-profit’s strategy working with elected officials and their staff in both the House and Senate. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has suggested that regulatory intervention by the government is critical to mitigate the risks of increasingly powerful models, however, he has also acknowledged that there are technical limits to compliance.
