OpenAI Commits $1 Million to Foster Cybersecurity Startups

Leading artificial intelligence (AI) research organisation OpenAI is providing $1m in funding to support cybersecurity start-ups as part of its new Cybersecurity Grant Program. The initiative aims to use AI to transform cyber defence mechanisms and create a collaborative network offering cutting-edge tools to defenders. By streamlining the quantification of AI model’s cybersecurity capabilities, knowledge of opportunities and challenges in the sector will increase, significantly influencing policies and strategies. Through a range of cutting-edge applications, AI will be leveraged to increase cybersecurity defences, providing a safer digital landscape. The grants will be awarded to specific applications of AI in defensive cybersecurity, with $10,000 increments being provided as API credits, direct funding or other equivalents that promote maximal public benefit. Offensive security projects are not considered aligning with company values.
