OpenAI CEO Speaks on AI Regulation – Insights from ChatGPT Maker

Date:

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming an increasingly popular technology among tech giants like Google and Microsoft. With its rise, ethical concerns about the development and use of the technology has been highlighted by authorities in many countries. In the same vein, the CEO of OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT AI chatbot, Sam Altman, recently advocated for the need of regulation of AI while testifying before a US Senate committee.

Altman pointed out that to minimize the risk of consequences that come with the wrong usage of AI, he deems it necessary to have an agency that can license AI companies. He shared that OpenAI would be vocal and actively cooperate with the government to prevent any mishaps caused by AI. On the issue of AI potentially replacing jobs, Altman concurred with Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai, who shared that the use of AI may cause ‘big societal labour market disruptions’ while also providing better positions in other areas.

In compliance with the ethical development of AI, the European Union Parliament recently introduced the European AI Act as a legal measure to regulate the use of the technology. Similarly, China has also developed draft rules to manage AI-powered products like ChatGPT. On the other hand, Google also announced powerful language model called PaLM 2, emphasizing again that ethical AI development should be prioritized.

OpenAI is a company founded in 2015 by scientists and business experts with the mission to ensure safe and responsible progress of artificial intelligence. It is one of the leaders in the field, investing heavily in research, workspace safety, and ethical standards for AI technology. The CEO of OpenAI, Sam Altman, is a well-known figure in the field of entrepreneurship. He is best known for being the co-founder and former president of Y combinator, a startup accelerator and seed accelerator, and also served for four years as the CEO of Hyperloop One, the first successful company to develop a commercialized version of the Hyperloop concept. Altman is also an advocate for the ethical use of AI and strives for the safe and responsible progress of the technology.
