On 8 May 2021, Worldcoin, the groundbreaking cryptocurrency project co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, revealed its much-awaited cryptocurrency wallet known as World App. The app provides a beta version of Worldcoin (WLD) and supports third-party cryptocurrencies such as Wrapped Ethereum (WETH), Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC), USD Coin (USDC), and Maker’s DAI stablecoin (DAI).
The official launch of Worldcoin is planned for later this year and crypto-enthusiasts from eligible countries are encouraged to claim their weekly or monthly tokens. US citizens, however, have been excluded from this offer.
Eth and Polygon serve as the blockchain foundation for World App and Worldcoin. Rollups of the Ethereum blockchain are set to be used when the final version of the wallet is released. Besides, contributors can take advantage of Ramp and MoonPay for fiat deposits and withdrawals. Remember that users who want to delete their personal data and information can do so instantly with World ID.
World App has caused a stir due to its integration of retina-scanning ID technology. The project emphasized that World ID comes as an optional feature and that other personal information isn’t required from users and can be removed from the app at any time. Furthermore, they highlighted that users hold their own personal keys, although they have the option of backing them up with cloud services.
Finally, speaking of the future, Worldcoin has underlined its commitment to empower individuals in the Age of AI. It plans to do this through the implementation of the AI-driven Universal Basic Income.
