OpenAI CEO Gives Testimony at US Congressional Hearing

Date:

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently made a highly anticipated appearance at a Senate sub-committee hearing to testify on the topic of artificial intelligence. This hearing was called by US Congress to assess both the positives and negatives of AI. In an uncommon bipartisan agreement, senators from both sides of the aisle called for measures to control the surging technology.

Altman himself indicated he was amenable to some kind of regulation for AI, and to ensure that it’s used in an appropriate and responsible manner. OpenAI is the company behind ChatGPT, a leading natural language processing and AI tool.

OpenAI is a research organization dedicated to making the advances in artificial general intelligence (AGI) practical and beneficial for humanity as a whole. OpenAI is majority-owned by non-profit organization OpenAI, Inc., although for-profit entities have minority stakes in it as well. Its mission is to ensure that AGI technology is deployed responsibly and is safe for all of us.

Sam Altman is the CEO of OpenAI, a multidisciplinary group of approximately 50 engineers, scientists, and computer programmers. He has worked in the technology industry for over a decade, serving as the President of Y Combinator from 2014 to 2017 as well as a board member at Coinbase and Board of Director of OpenAI. Altman has also made investments in tech companies such as Stripe, Instacart, Airbnb, Reddit, Zappos, Alright, and ZestFinance.
