OpenAI CEO, Sam Altman, has shown an interest in cultivated meat startup, Uncommon, which recently secured $30 million in funding. Uncommon, formerly known as Higher Steaks, uses cell manipulation technology to create pork products, including bacon and pork belly, without the need for genetic modification, antibiotics, animal products or toxic small molecules. Benjamina Bollag, CEO and founder of Uncommon, said that the UK-based company aims to tackle food choices and their disproportionate impact on human health. The funding will be used to increase staff numbers, gain regulatory approval and ramp up production. Other companies in the cultivated meat industry include Hoxton Farms and Ivy Farms.
