OpenAI CEO Declares End of Big AI Models

Date:

According to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, the era of giant artificial intelligence models is fading and greater advances will be made with models already in existence. During an event at MIT last week, Altman confirmed that OpenAI was not developing Chat GPT-5. This revelation follows a recent open letter, published by the Future of Life Institute and signed by billionaires Elon Musk and Steve Wozniak, calling for a six-month moratorium on any AI technology that is more powerful than Chat GPT-4. Altman commented that he didn’t believe it was the most optimal way to address AI issues.

This has prompted the US Biden administration and other governments worldwide to recognize the vital importance of formulating suitable regulations for the emerging AI industry. While the exact path of future development remains uncertain, companies like Google and Microsoft are already pioneering their own AI-based chatbot services. Musk himself has also announced plans to develop TruthGPT, an AI model designed to “understand the nature of the universe”. In an interview with Tucker Carlson, he commented on the potential consequences of unmonitored development of AI, citing the potential for civilizational destruction.

Last March, Musk founded X.AI, a Nevada-based company whose mission it is to share the opportunities of AI technology with all people. By providing ample measures and regulations, businesses will be able to safely explore AI without fear of potential implications. An AI-driven future is closer than ever and it is in the hands of these companies and governing organizations to protect us from potential disasters and leverage the true potential of this technology.
