OpenAI CEO Acknowledges Israel’s Large Role in Mitigating Tech Risks

Date:

OpenAI CEO, Sam Altman, visited Israel and recognized the country’s significant role in mitigating the risks posed by artificial intelligence (AI). Altman, one of the tech industry’s most prominent voices, has been calling on governments to quickly develop regulations to ensure AI is used responsibly. Israel was ranked among the top five countries for its concentration of critical machine learning systems and AI skills by a Stanford University study. Altman said, The energy that harnesses this technology and its positive benefits is great, and I am confident Israel will play a big role. He also visited Microsoft’s R&D center in Israel and focused on different investment opportunities available in the country. ChatGPT, created by Microsoft-backed OpenAI, has prompted lawmakers worldwide to take action to address safety concerns related to the rapid development and popularity of generative AI. Israel is leaning towards the US end of the legislative spectrum, seeking to achieve the right balance between innovation, human rights, and civil security. Israel released its 115-page AI policy draft in October to solicit public input before finalizing it. Altman was encouraged by his visit and optimistic about Israel’s positive contribution to AI.
