Hong Kong, December 4: OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, has reportedly submitted trademark applications for GPT-6 and GPT-7 in China as the company continues its advancements in building large language models (LLMs). The applications were filed by OpenAI OpCo, the entity representing the company in China, according to records from the Trademark Office of the China National Intellectual Property Administration. Despite none of OpenAI’s services being available in China or Hong Kong currently, the company’s pursuit of these trademarks indicates its commitment to expanding its LLM capabilities. OpenAI has not yet commented on the reports.

Since the launch of ChatGPT last year, OpenAI has been focused on enhancing the capabilities of its deep learning LLMs. Initially built on GPT-3.5, which boasts 175 billion parameters, ChatGPT has garnered significant attention and reached 100 million weekly active users recently. In response to this growing demand, OpenAI introduced the GPT-4 Turbo model, which is not only more powerful but also more cost-effective than its predecessor. With a 128k context window, GPT-4 Turbo can accommodate the equivalent of over 300 pages of text in a single prompt.
