The Odisha Skill Conclave recently held discussed the roadmap for Odisha to become a prime skilling hub in the world. With sessions on narrowing the gender gap, apprenticeship and internships, and importance of diversifying the workforce, the conclave was successful in bringing together policy makers, industry partners and experts to discuss how to create a globally benchmarked Indian workforce. Sanjay Kumar Singh, Principal Secretary from the Rural Development Department, Government of Odisha, expressed his pride on the skilling ecosystem in the state and how it can be used to transform both individuals and society. Pritiranjan Gharai, Minister of State (Independent Charge), Skill Development & Technical Education Department, Government of Odisha, was present at the Patha Pranta Utsav which was also held during the same day.
Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai took home USD 226 million in 2022 amid layoffs at Google. The company undertook cost-cutting exercises in order to ensure that the company remains financially viable and its employees are still able to receive proper compensation. Despite the difficult situation, Pichai was still able to enjoy the rewards of his hard work.
Sanjay Kumar Mishra, CMD of the Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Limited, spoke of how apprenticeship and internships are necessary for the individuals to get needed skills for the job, and how new technology such as Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things are important for the skilling process.
Sangita Jindal, Chairperson of the JSW Foundation, spoke on the importance of providing opportunities to marginalised groups such as women, transgenders, and disabled individuals, and how the Skilled in Odisha mission helps in providing such opportunities. Bhaskar Sarma, Commissioner-Cum-Secretary Social Security & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Department, Government of Odisha, spoke on the need for skilling opportunities for marginalised communities.
The Odisha Skill Conclave was successful in bringing together experienced professionals and policy makers for effective discussions on the future of skilling in the state. With this, Odisha can continue to build its position on a national and global scale.
